RSA Videos

RSA Animate style videos are ways to make us visualize the information we are hearing and to make connections with the facts.  There is a lot of information given but it flows like a story and the images that are drawn follow what we are hearing.

Your Task
You will create a RSA Animate style video that contains: spoken word, written words and drawings.  Your video will be on a Civilization in History (ex: Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, etc).

Where To Begin (Day 1)
Here are a few example videos to watch:

Gather Information (Day1 and Day 2)
You and your partner need to answer the following questions:
be detailed - very detailed
*Use the Internet to find your information.  You MUST keep tract of the websites that you find your information from.*

What is the name of the Civilization?
When were they around?
What are 2 inventions that they gave to the world? (ex: fire, printing press, irrigation, etc)
Name 2 important people from this civilization and what made them so important.
3 other important facts about this civilization.

Prepare Your Story (plan your drawings) (Day 3 and Day 4)
When planning out your ideas, based on the information you found above, you should try to use the stairs approach. You should have 5 steps to your stairs and each step will give a full understanding of the idea or information that you are getting across.
*each step should connect to the previous step - this will create a flow to your RSA.*
*if you can not fill 5 steps then you need to find more information - if you can fill more than 5 steps make sure that your giving 5 steps worth of detailed information*

Once you have filled out your 5 steps (intro, technologies, people, other information, conclusion) in point form it is time to create your full story.
While this is happening you should be planning and practicing your drawings.  If you are drawing the pictures as you go then you should have this all planned out and pre-drawn until you have it perfect.  If you are using cut outs you must make sure that you create a folder to hold all of your cutouts so you don't loose them.  *I would even number them incase they get mixed up.*

Filming (Day 5)
Make sure you have all your supplies: markers, rags to clean, camera, tripod, cutouts, etc.
Set your camera up on the tripod before you start.  Do Not Hold The Camera!
Here are some tips:
- take your time when you draw - the film will be sped up in iMovie
- you can talk while you are drawing - the audio will be taken out when you are done
HELP EACH OTHER - you are both making this video - collaborate and communicate
- if you forget to draw something then you just keep going - if it ruins what you are doing then you might have to start again
- your drawings should be continuous - do not take a break and pause the film - we want one continuous take
- each video should end with a zoom out - so we can see the entire drawing that you have made

Adding Voice (Day 6)
You can only add your voice once your video is loaded into iMovie and sped up to the right speed.
*see the above videos as examples*
When it is time to add your voice you will want to make sure the class is quiet.  This may mean coming in at lunch or after school.  You will also want to use the proper microphone to do this. Not the built in microphone.

Finished (Day 6)

You are done when you submit your video to be loaded up onto YouTube.
*make sure you use only music you have created or is royalty free,*

Reflection
When you are done you will load you RSA film onto the blog.  When you load this onto the following blog (see instructions on home page of this blog) you will then have to reflect on your RSA Film experience: http://8vestgwmsrsafilms.posterous.com/

Please answer these two questions:
What was the hardest part of making a RSA Film?
What would you do differently if you were to make another one?

  8. First of all, don't spend way too much time drawing if you're doing pre-drawn pictures. You need to leave time to film and record your voice.
Second, make sure not much people are around you when you film, because they might move the camera or step in front of it.
Third, get along with your partner, because you'll need to work with them a lot.

  13. If your partner is gone or you are behind work on it at home. Also, make sure you have a story line and don't waste so much time on the drawings because they do not need to look perfect and if you do pre-drawings use the time your given well and also work on them at home or on your free time.
